Not Dived For A While? Join Our Scuba Refresher!

waves
Regardless of how much we would all like to dive all day, every day, life gets in the way. If it's been a while since your last dive, consider joining our refresher session to ensure you're comfortable getting back in the water and blowing bubbles. We combine the refresher with your first dive of the day so you can make the most of your time underwater!

WHEN SHOULD I TAKE A REFRESHER?

As a new diver, we recommend taking a refresher if you have not dived for six months or longer. If you have been a diver for a while and have 100+ dives we recommend taking a refresher after one year or more of inactivity.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

The refresher will be incorporated with your first dive of the day so that you don't miss out on any time in the water. The session usually takes between 10-15 minutes, depending on how long it's been since your last dive, and how comfortable you are in the water. Once you have finished your short refresher session, you will then stay underwater and go straight into your first fun dive.

what will i do?

The refresher will include a pre-dive briefing, equipment set-up, buddy check, regulator clearing and recovery, mask clearing, buoyancy skills, alternate air source use and a weight check.

how much does it cost?

We offer refresher dives free of charge when you book fun diving with us.
For longer stays including accommodation, check out our package prices here.

why choose scuba junkie?

As always with Scuba Junkie, safety is our top priority. Our group ratio here on Derawan is 4 divers per guide. All of our guides are renewed and up-to-date PADI Divemasters or Instructors and we usually group our refreshers separately from other fun divers. We ensure that we can offer you top quality guides, not only in line with PADI standards, but also by our Scuba Junkie standards! Our equipment is well maintained, and serviced regularly, and our dive boats have all safety equipment you may need, including emergency oxygen and first aid kit.

Diving around the islands in the Sangalaki area is incredibly diverse – After your skills you could be diving with manta rays, looking for sharks or drifting along the spectacular reefs. Many of our dive sites are suitable for refreshers with sheltered areas and mooring lines so that you can descend with control.

Are You Ready To Get Back In The Water?

waves
After a period of inactivity, our refresher will help you get back to blowing bubbles safely and comfortably. We'll help you brush up on your diving skills so you can focus less on the technical aspects of diving and more on the incredible underwater scenery you'll see while diving in this area!

what does the schedule look like?

waves

A member of our dive team will meet you at the jetty in the morning to help collect your dive equipment from the dive shop. You will be given a thorough dive briefing about the different skills covered in the refresher, standard emergency procedures, hand signals and what to expect to see at the dive site. Your guide will also go over any questions or concerns you may have about the dive. If there’s anything extra you wish to practise, you can let your Divemaster or Instructor know. Following the equipment setup, the underwater skills will be practiced in calm, shallow waters, with your guide demonstrating the skills underwater.

diving time!

Once you have practised the skills and are feeling comfortable with blowing bubbles again, you’ll be able to head out to explore the site without delay! You may see anything from colourful schooling fish and massive green turtles, to pipefish hiding in the sand, nudibranchs and of course Nemo! After the dive your guide will go over any reminders for you and give you feedback while you cruise to the next dive site. At the end of the day, your guide will sit down with you to help fill in your log book with all the details from the dives and of course go through our fish reference books and point out the awesome marine life you’ve encountered!

"The first day we did some refresher/fun dives on Derawan. After one day I felt immediately at ease and by the end of our trip; I jumped into the water as I was so excited to do some more diving! I am really grateful for that."
