Derawan

Derawan Island is the island that we have our water bungalows and dive center located on. It’s a small island with a local village and a “street” in which you can meet the locals and have a local meal in one of the many restaurants. This island should really be called “Turtle Island” as there are literally 100s of turtles! You don’t even need to dive to see them - you can actually see them from your bungalow balcony! Apart from the many turtle encounters you will also have the chance of seeing some amazing macro life such as stone fish, seahorses, flamboyant cuttlefish, blue-ringed octopus etc as well as some schooling jackfish and some enormous giant clams. There is also a nice wreck dive here. Be sure to check out our house reef at Derawan for some unique critter encounters.

Usually your first day of diving will be around this island, and it's also the place where we do all our night dives. Derawan is perfect for all types of divers and it's also the perfect place to do your PADI Open Water Course or Discover Scuba Dive.

After the days diving you can sit back and relax in our panoramic bar or hang out on your balcony and be amazed at the number of turtles you will see, without even getting wet!!!

In the evenings you can ask our friendly staff about the options to go turtle spotting at night as turtles often come onto the beach to lay their eggs. Furthermore make sure to ask our staff to show you our special area on the island where you can see baby guitar sharks by the shore almost every evening of the year. It's amazing being able to get so close to these endangered marine animals.

Whether you want to dive with lots of turtles or spend your time looking for rare critters, we are sure you will want to dive Derawan over and over again!
